Become A Volunteer

Volunteer Role Descriptions:
Resource Centre Volunteers work within our centres helping visually impaired people try out useful daily living equipment.
Duties include: Dealing with customers in person and on the telephone giving out information about services and equipment. Demonstrating equipment to visually impaired people and their carers. Lending an ear and bringing a smile.
Would suit: An outgoing individual who is happy to work in a relaxed but busy environment willing to help others who have problems with everyday living.
Commitment: Whatever time you can spare, fitting in with opening times of the centre and in conjunction with other volunteers.
Home Visitor Volunteers befriend blind and visually impaired people who are either living on their own or in a rest or retirement home and help them with their everyday tasks.
Duties include: Reading letters and other correspondence, sorting out and matching clothes, chatting and perhaps playing a game of cards etc, light shopping, taking the blind or visually impaired person on a short walk.
Would suit: A caring, patient person who is willing to listen and give support on a1:1 basis
Commitment: Generally 1-2 hours weekly/fortnightly to suit volunteer and person.
Can sometimes be at weekends or in the evening.
Club Volunteers are needed to help out at the many social groups in the area that are held at various different locations and times.
Duties include: Helping set up the meeting place; moving chairs/tables etc, welcoming club members, having a chat, making tea and coffee, helping with the entertainment.
Would suit: Lively, outgoing people who enjoy meeting people and working in a team.
Commitment: Usually 2-3 hours every fortnight.
Driver Volunteers help in many different ways.
Duties include: Helping blind and visually impaired people get to and from club meetings, taking people to appointments or on outings, driving minibuses.
Would suit: Car owner with clean licence.
Commitment: Depending on the role, club drivers usually give one afternoon each fortnight. Other drivers help out on an ad hoc basis.
Charity Shop Volunteers help in our second-hand clothes shops in Bognor Regis and Worthing.
Duties include: Serving customers, sorting clothes and helping with displays.
Would suit: Organised person with some retail experience.
Commitment: Usually one morning or afternoon session per week.
Office Volunteers are required for each of our Centres
Duties include: General office work, typing, filing, photocopying etc
Would suit: Persons with previous office experience/skills.
Commitment: Any time given would be useful to fit in with office opening times and other volunteer schedules.
Fundraising Volunteers help with organising/taking part in events and with collections.
Duties include: Anything from making decorations through to distributing posters, and being collection box wardens
Would suit: People interested in helping us help visually impaired people in West Sussex
Commitment: Any help at all would be appreciated.
